Sozopol
The villa is situated on the quiet Budjaka peninsula, a short walk or drive from Sozopol.
Sozopol is one of the most historic towns on Bulgarian’s Black sea coast. The old town hosts the Apollonia arts festival every September for 10 days and the new town really comes alive during the summer season, bustling with activity, there are children’s amusements, food stalls, restaurants, bars and several beautiful beaches.
Both Sozopol new and old town have a lovely airy feel with shady parks and gardens and picturesque rocky cliffs with romantic bays. It is the perfect destination for those who want an authentic Bulgarian holiday, an entirely different experience to the Sunny Beach or Golden Sands resorts.
History
Civilization dates back to the bronze age, evidence has been found of shipping activity in the area dating back to 3500 BC.
The current town was founded in the 7th Century BC by Greek colonists and was called Apollonia as there was a temple dedicated to Apollo in the town with a statue of the god standing 45 feet high, later transported to Rome and placed in the Capitol.
Rules by the Byzantine, Bulgarian and Ottoman Empires, Sozopol became part of the newly independent Bulgaria in the 19th Century.
Sozopol Town
old town is full of character with traditional timbered houses, cobbled streets and tranquil tree lined squares. On the cliffs around the old town there are some excellent sea food restaurants, and the nearby old town beach. In the summer there is an open air cinema showing the latest movies. The old town hosts the Apollonia arts festival every September for 10 days.
Sozopol new town, in season, is bustling with activity. There are children’s amusements, food stalls, restaurants, bars and the large Harmanite beach. There is also a small supermarket and several mini marts.
